General Elections 2011

The GE are currently going on and today is supposedly the "cooling off day" where citizens are given a day off from rallies to think over their vote.
The past week there have been rallies by the many parties in Singapore all over the island.

The rally at Hougang Stadium probably got the most of my attention seeing it is so near to school, that the special operations police were stationed early in school in an event of a riot. It even got the whole upper serangoon road jam that it was all over twitter that everyone had to wait a good 30-45 mins for a bus home. We have work to do you know!!

However from the past month or so, I have never seen Singapore from such a perspective in my life.
They do say that once you start discussing about politics with your friends, you are growing up. Much less in a jc where it is an extremely commonly discussed topic. The nation just seemed chaotic and the future does seem bleak to a certain extent.
Various parties at rallies telling people the policies that they can offer to them and how they can make our future better.
But to be honest we all know how long it takes for change to actually happen and if it does happen won't it have its limitations and the need for more solutions which could possibly be a non-benefit to the nation. How can we set a guarantee that this change will be of good. Yet, we all know that what we currently have could possibly be something of that could be a negative notion for our future. These questions that seem so uncertain of that we as Singaporeans truly have to ask ourselves what we hope the future of Singapore to be like.

Thankfully, I need not have to vote this time round. However my time will have to come when I turn of age.
And it is then will I have to consider what I would like to see in my future and the benefits that I'm able to have access to and the progression the government has taken from the last GE.

It such a depressing sight to come to see Singaporeans lashing out at one another be it parties/individuals on their wrongdoings and negative things in the light of politics. It just shows the lack of a gracious society. At the end of it, it just shows how the government has been trying to build the idea of "One people, One nation, One Singapore" to be an ideal, cause no matter what, there will be 2 sides to the story. This clearly reflecting the idea of "Ideal vs Reality" in terms of the nation's "togetherness". A very contradictory word to be used for such a time.
